After the Lutz'sche Kunstmühle in Calmbachtal burned down in 1901, but the building on the site with the water power rights was rescued, Alfred Gauthier purchased the site. In 1902 he moved with five employees and a few machines from Pforzheim to the Enztal where he founded the company "Alfred Gauthier, Feinmechanische Werkstatt, Calmbach".
